Welcome to the Chinese Crested history page

Hi, I'm Laura Shepherd, the other {short description of image} kid and I am thirteen years old. There are two types of the Chinese Crested, the Hairless and Powderpuff varieties. The males are usually Hairless, and females are usually Powderpuff, but both can be either.

The hairless type originated in China in 202 BC, during the Han dynasty. The hairless variety was thought to have evolved from the African hairless. There are paintings depicting hairless dogs, similar to the Chinese Crested of today, in the tombs and incorporated in the art of some Egyptian pharaohs. Surprisingly, Spanish explorers found hairless dogs in Mexico as well as other parts of South and Central America.

The Chinese Crested dogs have been a working breed for centuries. During the 14th century, European sailors used them during the Bubonic Plague to rid their ships of all rats. If there was even one rat on board, that almost always meant that everyone on the ship was going to die. The first Chinese Crested was shown on April 28, 1885.

The Chinese Crested dogs of today are similar to the ones in the paintings in the Egyptian pharoah's tombs.

The Crested dogs are loving, intelligent animals, that can be great companions to you. I think that the PWD's and the Chinese Crested s are wonderful, loving companions to you and your family members. They can be your friends, and I personally think that they are the best kinds of dogs on this earth. I have two PWD's at my house and they're both handfuls but buckets of love at the same time.
